House of Honey in Toro Canyon: The Quarry House
A Modern Reverie with Mid-Century Roots
Set into a rock quarry in Montecito, this 1950s cabin by Santa Barbara’s first female architect, Lutah Maria Riggs was never meant to be ordinary.
We reworked it for our founder, Tamara Kaye-Honey, keeping the spirit intact while opening things up and adding two glass cubes for living and hosting. The result moves easily between architecture and landscape, with materials that feel grounded and a point of view that is anything but. A built-in stair formed from the site’s original boulders has quietly become the place everyone ends up, usually with a drink in hand.
